報告題目：Automated Terrain Feature Identification from Remote Sensing Imagery: A Deep Learning Approach

報告摘要：This talk introduces a novel deep learning framework to support terrain feature identification for automated landscape scene recognition and interpretation. Developing landscape scene recognition techniques are of critical importance for geospatial researchers to differentiate terrains, support autonomous driving and navigation, detect interesting targets, identify anomalies, aid search and rescue operations, inspect living conditions of refugee camps, among others. This work takes advantage of the rapid advancement in deep learning (DL) and convolutional neural networks (CNN), the maturation of high-performance computing hardware chips, and cloud platform as well as the proliferation of geospatial big data. It achieves automatic and high-performance terrain feature detection in the following ways: (1) it extends a popular object detection network by integrating deep and deeper CNNs, boosting up its capability in feature extraction; (2) it provides a comprehensive evaluation to identify the best combination of hyper-parameters that optimize the model performance; (3) it introduces ensemble techniques to further enhance the model’s predictive accuracy by the collective intelligence of multiple classifiers. We expect this work to contribute significantly to the advancement of terrain analysis and deep learning.
主講人簡介：李文雯，美國亞利桑那州立大學(ASU)地理科學與城市規(guī)劃學院副教授（終身教授）、博士生導師、 ASU可持續(xù)發(fā)展中心資深科學家、計算機系聯(lián)合教授、ASU巴雷特榮譽學院榮譽教授，網(wǎng)絡信息基礎設施與智能計算實驗室主任(http://cici.lab.asu.edu)，空間信息科學研究中心副主任。主要研究方向為WebGIS、時空大數(shù)據(jù)、 人工智能與知識挖掘，以及科學可視化。她的研究成果廣泛的應用在多個地球科學和社會科學領域，包括土地利用和土地覆蓋變化，北極氣候變化，生物量估算，地貌特征提取等等。在ASU任職期間，作為第一項目負責人主持多項美國自然科學基金項目，個人總獲獎金額超過170萬美元。并在諸多知名國際GIS及遙感雜志上發(fā)表論文70余篇，其中SCI論文40篇。同時，她也是美國自然科學基金(NSF)頒發(fā)的杰出青年教授獎得主(得獎年份：2015)，該獎項為NSF為美國Tenure-Track教授頒發(fā)的最高榮譽。
